Year 6 visit Duxford

Of particular interest was the Land Warfare Hall which brought a measure of tangible realism and palpable atmosphere to their most recent work on war poetry and life in the trenches.  Similarly, the Battle Of Britain hanger and an associated presentation by the Museum staff on ‘The Home Front’ gave an exciting stimulus to forthcoming WW2 studies. The children particularly enjoyed clearing incendiary bombs and practising putting on replica gas masks. Deputy  Headteacher Nick Chandler commented, ”The day was a huge success and the children returned very excited about what they had seen; there is something unique in the scale of Duxford and the children were often in awe of the exhibits witnessed up close and to touch.  Our aerospace history is fascinating to children of this age and we are achieving some great writing based on a phenomenal personal experience.”
