World Book Day Fun

Staff and children alike donned an array of costumes to celebrate their favourite tales and characters.  The day was filled with many exciting reading activities including the exciting finale of Bourne Westfield’s Grand Tournament of Books. In the preceding weeks, every child had been busy promoting their all-time favourite book. Each year group then chose an overall favourite and these were presented in a Dragon’s Den style pitch to a team of judges during a special book week assembly. It was an exciting and close run competition with Year 5 emerging as the very proud winners with their chosen book ‘Grandpa’s Great Escape’ by David Walliams.  The staff team also joined in the reading fun by nominating and voting for their all-time favourite books, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice coming out as the overall winner.

Karen Smith, member of the English Team, added “It’s been a great day to raise the profile of reading.  Children of all ages love sharing their favourite books and hearing about the favourite books of others.

Children all received a £1 World Book Day voucher that could be used as part payment for a book from a visiting book fair.
