A new topic for Year 5

We wanted to see if microbes really did need warmth, moisture, food and time in order to grow effectively. We planned a fair test investigation to see which bread dough would rise the most by changing just one variable at a time. We found out that yeast (the microbe used in bread making) really does need all 4 conditions to grow because even when some dough mixtures were only missing one condition, such as food or warmth, the dough did not rise as well.

Deputy Phase 2 Leader Kirstin Swanson commented “The children thoroughly enjoyed following recipes to make up their dough mixtures and were quite surprised to see the differences between them!”
