Hockey Champions

From the word go the Westfield team was very strong, producing some excellent hockey but struggling to get the ball in the goal after playing the majority of the game in their opponents half. Nevertheless, after some great individual performances the team won their first match in the last minute of the game with a goal that sealed a well-deserved 2 -1 victory against Lincoln Minster ‘A’ team.

Westfield played their next game against St James’ school from Grimsby and once again made hard work of sealing a win by squandering chance after chance in front of goal. However, they won the match 1 – 0 and went in to their final match against Lincoln Minster ‘B’ unbeaten. In this game the girls kept the best to last with everything coming together to complete a memorable 5 – 0 win.

Bourne Westfield were deserved winners of the competition and now go on to represent the County in the East IN2 U11 Schools Hockey Championships at Redbridge Sports and Hockey Centre in Essex on Wednesday 11th March.

PE Co-ordinator at the school, Richard Scott, was impressed with his team and commented, “The Bourne Westfield team played with a lot of energy and individual skill, and were determined to do well. They worked together with great team spirit throughout the day, against some strong opposition, and deserved their success.”
