Learning to Live Well

Miss Desbruslais, year 1 teacher contacted Sainsbury’s in Bourne who kindly agreed for 90 year 1 children to visit their store. Sainsbury’s arranged for their produce manager to talk to the children. The children explored the fruit and vegetable isle and asked questions about where the different fruits came from and how they grow. The children had lots of fun and enjoyed thinking about the types of fruit and vegetables they could put in their smoothies. Sainsbury’s kindly gave each child a Ruby grapefruit (a fruit some of the children had never tasted). This became the basis of the smoothies the children made. They also purchased bananas to thicken the smoothie and strawberries to sweeten it. Once back at school the children created smoothies in their class and enhanced their Literacy skills by writing a Recipe for their smoothie.

Miss Desbruslais commented, “The children loved making their drinks and had lots of fun juicing, peeling, hulling and tasting the fruit!  We are very grateful to Sainsbury’s for allowing us to visit.”
