Last term Bourne Westfield pupils in Year 5 embarked on an exciting mentoring project with Year 12 students from Bourne Grammar School.
27 students from the grammar school volunteered to take part in the mentoring project every Wednesday afternoon at Westfield.
The aim of the project is to build children’s confidence (particularly in maths) and develop communication skills.
The project got off to a flying start with mentors and mentees hitting it off from the very first session. All pupils worked hard and had 1:1 attention for the whole session. Miss Atkinson, Headteacher, said, “It was brilliant to see the relationship between the older and younger pupils develop so quickly. Both parties are getting such a lot from the experience. We are so grateful that Mr Anderson reached out with the idea as it will be of great benefit to our pupils. They look forward to the sessions so much.”
