Sporting Success

Well, what a week it has been for the school sports teams. On Tuesday, two teams from Years 5 and 6 took part in the annual inter school games netball competition. This year they received coaching from the 6 th form sports leaders at Spalding High School as part of the event; they then went on to play matches in two pools. Both Westfield teams came top of the group, playing each other in the final. Westfield Blues won after a very close first half. It was a fabulous day, watching both teams working together, showing their skills and having fun; the cherry on the cake was coming 1st and 2 nd. The children came away buzzing, with so much more confidence in their own abilities. We await to hear news of the county final event, which should follow shortly. Thank you to Mrs Binns for her support on the sidelines and first aid treatment.

On Wednesday, 24 pupils from KS2 took part in Ayscoughfee Hall Prep School annual cross-country event, held at Spalding Grammar School playing fields; this event is always extremely tough. As the only state school taking part against Grantham Prep, Copthill, St Hughes and of course Ayscoughfee, the teams can be even more proud of their achievements. The weather conditions were tough, very changeable with a strong cold wind mixed with heavy showers. The children pulled out all the stops to represent their school in style. We came away with many individual medals - a special mention to Alfie Fleming in Year 6 who came 1 st in his event; he is a great role model for all of the pupils and was so supportive of others during the event. The real winners were all the teams who had great support for each other before and after racing. We came away with very impressive results showing how strong we are as a school. The Year 3/4 boy’s teams came 1st overall in the team event as did the Year 5/6 boys! The girls can also be very proud with both teams coming 4th overall out of 8 teams!! Well done to all and a huge thank you to all of the parents who came along and helped on the day, we couldn’t have done it without you.
