Tennis for Years 3 and 4

Published: 27th June 2025

It has been another busy week of sports at Westfield with 16 pupils from Years 3 and 4 taking part in the annual school games tennis competition. This event was supported by two secondary schools whose sports leaders ran some skills and drills sessions as a warmup.

We played in teams of 4, with each team having 3 or 4 matches before lunch. The event was really relaxed with our pupils running onto court and thoroughly enjoying this new experience. As the day progressed, they all improved their skills and after lunch we had one team playing for bronze position and one team in the final out of 15 teams. We came home with silver medals for one team who lost by just 1 point in the final to Elsea Park and bronze for another. One team finished in 10th place and another in 13th place.

To see all our teams grow in confidence throughout the day and just enjoy themselves was priceless. As this was the first time they had all played in proper tennis matches, we couldn’t be prouder of them all.
