Children in Year 2 at Bourne Westfield had a wonderful visit into school from Darren Tinkler, owner of Roots to Food today.
Children learnt how to prepare healthy ingredients, cook them, present them and finally tasted their creations at the end of the session. The workshop was a fun and interactive way for children to gain a better understanding of how nutritional information, coupled with cooking techniques, can be used to create a healthy and tasty dish. Children created chicken pesto pasta.
The children really enjoyed this experience, They practised different techniques to prepare the ingredients, including whisking, grating, stirring, mixing and chopping! The children used lots of new vocabulary and really enjoyed tasting a dish they had made themselves. The recipe went home with the children and I know many of them have already cooked it for their parents.
