Year 4 have been taking a delicious trip back in time, recreating an authentic Anglo-Saxon stew as part of their Design and Technology (DT) lessons. The hands-on activity has combined history with practical culinary skills, giving children an immersive experience of early medieval life.
Under the guidance of their teachers, they have learned about traditional Anglo-Saxon ingredients, cooking methods, and the importance of food in daily life. Using locally sourced vegetables and herbs typical of the era, they have worked together to prepare a hearty stew, much like one that may have been served around a Saxon hearth centuries ago.
“This project has helped our pupils understand how people lived in the past, while also developing important kitchen skills,” said Mrs Johnson “It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they peel, chop, and stir, just as the Anglo-Saxons did!”
