Year 5 enjoyed a visit from Past Productions, where they learned a lot about the Mayan daily life and culture. Pupils learned to talk and count like a Mayan, participated in interactive workshops, role play and drama. The day even included chocolate tasting – but not the sweet milk chocolate many children expected! Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed meeting ‘Big Nose’, a Mayan warrior and exploring religion and sacrifice. They also learned about the first ball game recorded in the American continent – deadly Pok-a-Tok.
Year 5 teacher, Sue Cameron, commented, “This was a great introduction to our topic and has really ignited the children’s desire to explore Mayan civilisation in more detail.”
