This week it was the Year 6 girls football teams’ chance to shine. Twenty girls from Bourne Westfield took part in the annual inter-school football tournament, having expressed an interest in representing the school at the start of the year. The event was run by our local school games organiser and held at the Deepings School, with their Year 10 sports leaders helping to officiate the event.
After a slow start and some heavy rain, the Westfield Green team settled into their positions and worked well as a team, winning 4 out of their 5 matches convincingly. Baston had also won 4 of their 5 matches and as this was a round robin event it meant we were tied at the end of the day and went down to goal difference. We came 2nd overall by 1 goal! The Westfield Blue team developed as a team as each match progressed, narrowly losing in the last minute to Market Deeping Primary School but showing some great defensive play, with lots of near misses on goal too. At the end of the tournament, the blue team were awarded the trophy for Respect, as they had displayed such positive attitudes to their teammates, the opposition and the sports leaders during the event - this made us all incredibly proud knowing that they demonstrated the Westy Way perfectly.
A huge well done to all the girls, many of whom are now keen to join a football club and continue to develop their love of football outside of school. Thank you to Mrs Binns for first aid and supporting the girls throughout the matches too.
