Daringly Different Digital Art

Published: 2nd May 2023

Last term our Year 5 pupils immersed themselves in portrait art using digital software.  The weeklong project began with pupils exploring the artwork of Florian Nicoelle, a captivating artist who combines newsprint, pencil, watercolour and digital images to create pieces that really draw the eye.  Pupils then took photographs of one another and created outlines of themselves to upload into the art programme.  Once this was done, the real work began!  Pupils experimented with a range of features, exploring colour, shape and text to enhance their portraits and spent a considerable amount of time creating pieces that showcased their identities.  Year 5 then placed their digital artwork onto painted canvases before adding prints and further personalised details.  The result of which has led to some colourful and eye-catching pieces.  Pupils were both surprised and extremely proud of the result and teacher, Mrs Brooke, commented, “The finished artwork was impressive and showed the children’s creativity and individuality.”
