The Reception children at Bourne Westfield had a fantastic hands-on experience at Great Wood Farm Early Years centre last week. The children were given the opportunity to see sheep and their lambs at close quarters. They all helped to bottle feed a lamb and learnt all about how a farmer numbers his sheep to keep them safe. The children enjoyed dinner together around the campfire in the woods. Some of the children: ground wheat to make flour; made bread over the open fire; had a great time in the mud kitchen, built dens and climbed and balanced on trees and logs. Outdoor learning at its best!
"It was lovely to see the children all sitting around the open fire eating lunch and talking about their adventures and experiences." said EYFS lead teacher Catherine Bull. "They all loved being in the outdoors, getting muddy with their friends and having an active and unique learning opportunity. I know the children will have made fond memories of their day out - they haven’t stopped talking about it since they got back to school!”
